Where organisations don’t have a dedicated team for employee awareness, behaviour and culture, the responsibility is often handed to members of the Information, IT security or data protection team.
It is not unusual for CISM’s, CRISC’s, CISSP’s and other professionals to be responsible for developing and delivering programmes, or initiatives, to influence changes in employee behaviour and culture as well as the day to day job of governance, risk and compliance.
However, while many will be enthusiastic about giving the human factor a go, they might not have training or experience in what they are being asked to do.
We support information security professionals to increase their likelihood of success by training them in human awareness, behaviour and culture, enabling them to design more effective programmes to deliver change and reducing risk.
Learners on our courses report having a different conversation with internal and external stakeholders and being more confident when being asked to explain their approach to managing negative employee behaviour and complying with cross-examination from financial regulators.
Back in 2017, we pioneered introducing information security professionals to the basics of human awareness, behaviour and culture before, training them on how to develop and deliver, education and awareness activities that delivered change.

“The RHF Foundation course enabled me to have an entirely different conversation with our regulator when they questioned me and our CISO about our efforts to manage human factor risks.”
“My overall experience was amplified by the fact I was joined by my direct line manager, with whom I work closely. We both came away with a fresh perspective and a mutual understanding of what we need to do, and where to begin. It meant we didn’t have to waste any time in summarising the course or our key takeaways to each other when we were back in the office, instead it happened naturally throughout the week.”
“I’ve worked in governance, risk and compliance for 14 years and I’m familiar with many information security standards, what surprised me about the course was how little actual governance, risk and compliance, as I have been trained to understand them, actually exists when it came to the human factor.”
“The workshop has provided me with plenty of food for thought. Bruce’s legal background helped challenge preconceptions on what is proportionate based upon legal defence. The discussion with colleagues across the industry was useful and it has encouraged me to further adopt positive reinforcement by exploiting the “human desire to belong” to combat cognitive bias.”
“Once I completed the course and looked back on what we’d been taught, I could see how the Team at Re-thinking the Human Factor, have applied behavioural science to even how they’ve developed and delivered the RHF Foundation course. Great to see them practising what they preach.”
“We recognised the need to move from a focus on education and awareness to influencing employee behaviour and building a security culture, but where do you start? The SABC® Bench marking exercise gave us a credible vision for what needed to be in place, where we stood compared to this and what corrective actions we needed to take and all within 1 month!”
“I work in a global marketing agency and the course tutors reference to everyday marketing and communications practices just resonated with what I see every day around me. Now, I’m talking to stakeholders in a language they understand and recognise as their own. It’s made those discussions about influencing behaviour so much easier!”
